Heine captures medalist honors; Wolfpack finish third in tournament

SENATOBIA – Copiah-Lincoln Community College freshman Philip Heine of Madison captured medalist honors in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Tournament held at Back Acres Country Club in Senatobia recently. Heine fired an even par two-day total of 144 (72-72). The win qualifies Heine for the NJCAA Division II National Golf Tournament in Plymouth, Indiana, May 24-27.

Grant Motter of Mississippi Gulf Coast, Camden Backel and Lance Strickland, both of Meridian finished in a three-way tie for second at 146.

No. 2 ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast and Meridian finished regulation tied at 598, but Gulf Coast claimed the championship in a sudden-death playoff. The Wolfpack finished third at 616 followed by East Central at 649 and Northwest at 653. The win marks Gulf Coast’s ninth straight title. They will represent the region at the NJCAA National Tournament.

Individually for the Wolfpack, Joseph Dendy finished at 154 (75-79), Cole Arseneault at 158 (78-80), Brandon Blakney at 160 (81-79) and Jason Byrd at 169 (83-86).

Heine was also named to the NJCAA All-Region 23 Team.
