Cobras, Hornets successful in Crystal Springs Jamboree

CRYSTAL SPRINGS – Crystal Springs High School hosted a spring scrimmage Friday night. Teams included in the lineup were McLaurin, Wingfield, Terry, Wesson, Pelahatchie, Loyd Star and Crystal Springs.

The teams took turns with 16 plays from the 40-yard line – eight plays on offense and eight plays on defense. All teams were allowed to play two games each.

Wesson 42, McLaurin 12

Against McLaurin, quarterback Tyler Christmas led the team with offensive plays that resulted in seven touchdowns. Cornelius Barlow and Farrod Green made two touchdowns each.

Tyler Christmas, Enrique Smith and Dartavious Dixon also made it to the end zone. Matthew Craft and Demarcus Smith were among the top defensive players that held the McLaurin team to only two touchdowns.

Wesson 24, Wingfield 6 

The Cobras struck again in their second scrimmage against Wingfield. Quarterbacks Tyler Christmas and Peyton Burns led Wesson with four touchdowns against the tough defense.

Cornelius Barlow made two touchdowns and Enrique Smith and Dartavious Dixon both made one touchdown. Demarcus Smith, Kendrick Brown, and Enrique Smith were top tacklers, keeping Wingfield to only one touchdown.

Loyd Star 12, Pelahatchie 18 

Loyd Star fought hard against Pelahatchie but couldn’t get the points on the scoreboard to pull off the win.

Quarterbacks Parker Flowers and Zack Arnold ran successful offensive plays that resulted in two touchdowns. Top rushers were Tevon Lackmon and Bret Calcote.

The Hornets’ defense was led by Peyton Flowers, Hayden Brownlee and Cameron Smith. Willie Smith made two interceptions.

Loyd Star 6, Crystal Springs 24 

Loyd Star battled hard but was not strong enough to hold the Crystal Springs offense.

Tyler Smith scored the only touchdown of the game, but quarterbacks Parker Flowers and Zack Arnold moved the ball down the field. Bret Calcote also led with yardage.
