JACKSON – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars opened their basketball season with a 48-29 loss to the Jackson Academy Raiders Tuesday night.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Cougars also lost their opener 53-9 to the Lady Raiders.

BA returns to action Monday as they prepare to host the Simpson Academy Cougars at John R. Gray Gymnasium for four games. Action begins with the girls’ junior varsity contest starting at 4 p.m.

Jackson Acad. 48, BA 29 

The Raiders came out and quickly set the tone of the contest in the first quarter to grab a 14-6 and outscored the Cougars 17-9 in the third quarter to secure the win.

Senior Peyton Hood was the offensive leader for the Cougars with 16 points and five rebounds. Drake Flowers contributed eight points, four rebounds and two steals. Caleb Brown had five assists. Trent Nettles had two steals and three rebounds.

Austin Tuckers was the top scorer for the Raiders with 19 points. Brandon Hutchins provided nine points.
