Bears clobber Dexter, Lady Bulldogs nip West Lincoln

DEXTER – The West Lincoln Bears and the Dexter Lady Bulldogs were victorious Friday night in Dexter’s Holiday tournament action.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Bulldogs nipped the West Lincoln Lady Bears 39-38.

In boys’ action, the Bears destroyed the Dexter Bulldogs 64-43.

In Saturday’s contest, the West Lincoln Bears versus the West Marion Trojans games were cancelled due to tornado warnings around the area.

West Lincoln will resume action Tuesday as they start their division race at home against the Bassfield Yellowjackets. The junior varsity boys will begin the action at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity games at Jack Case Gymnasium.

Dexter 39, West Lincoln 38 

The Lady Bears and the Lady Bulldogs battled in a defensive contest in the first half of action as Dexter led at halftime 18-14.

In the third quarter, the Lady Bears (4-10) came out strong with a 12-5 run to reclaim the lead at 26-23.

In the final quarter, the Lady Bulldogs charged back with a 16-12 run to squeeze out a narrow win.

“We played poorly in the fourth quarter,” West Lincoln coach Lane Young said. “We missed too many easy and open shots throughout the game.”

Hanna Moak was the top scorer for the Lady Bears with 17 points. Layton Sills netted nine points.

Netuiva Hargrove paced the Lady Bulldogs with nine points.

The Bears came out firing on all cylinders in the first half of action as they provided a 14-7 run in the first quarter and a 14-8 run in the second quarter to take a commanding 28-15 lead into halftime.

In the second half, both teams provided an exciting offensive battle, but the Bears managed to maintain control by outscoring Dexter 37-28 in the final two frames to collect the win.

Lofton Sill powered the Bears attack with a game-high double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds. Javian Mackabee also had a double-double performance of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Keshaun London contributed 15 points.

“Lofton Sills and Javian Mackabee did a great job scoring and rebounding in the game,” said Young. “Our team effort was really good too.”

Lazarius Ratcliff was the top shooter for the Bulldogs with 15 points. Terrian Bell provided 14 points.
