Hornets, Lady Bears win junior high finals

The West Lincoln Lady Bears and the Loyd Star Hornets won the Junior High Lincoln County Tournament Monday night at Enterprise Gymnasium.
In the championship games, the West Lincoln Lady Bears defeated the Loyd Star Lady Hornets 33-26. In the boys contest, the Hornets won their third junior high championship in a row after edging the Bears 32-29.
In the consolation games, the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats knocked off the Enterprise Lady Jackets 25-14 in the opener. In second game, the Bobcats crushed the Jackets to win 61-30.
Bogue Chitto 25, Enterprise 14
Baileigh Jackson and Tyanna Brumfield powered the Lady Cats with six points each. Cheyenne Hall and Sheryl Spraggins contributed four points apiece.
Breyuanna Johnson was the top scorer for the Lady Jackets with six points. Brooke Foster provided four points.
Bogue Chitto 61, Enterprise 30
Dylan Vaughn was the offensive leader for the Jackets with nine points. John Burns chipped in with six points.
Malik Richardson directed the Bobcats with 14 points. N. Godbolt netted 10 points and B. Lewis contributed nine points.
West Lincoln 33, Loyd Star 26
The Lady Bears (12-0) and the Lady Hornets (11-3) battled in the close game in the first half of action as Loyd Star took a 19-18 lead into halftime.
In the second half, West Lincoln managed to overpowered Loyd Star with a 13-7 run in the final two frames to finished the season undefeated and clinch the championship crown.
Skylar Hall and Megan Gerald paced the Lady Bears’ offense with nine points apiece. Morgan Newman provided five points.
Andrea Butker led the Lady Hornets with 15 points. Sarah Britt scored six points.
Loyd Star 32, West Lincoln 29
In the last contest of the night, the Bears and Hornets battled in a close game as well as West Lincoln took a 24-18 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Loyd Star rallied back to outscored the Bears 14-5 in the final two quarter to edge West Lincoln 32-29 to capture their third straight junior high crown
Brent Cade was the spark plug to led the Hornets (11-3) with a game-high 19 points. Zabien Price added seven points.
Jatavian Lewis directed the Bears (7-5) with a team-high 12 points. Garrison Coffey contributed eight points. Michael Brotherns chipped in with seven points.
