Hornets sting Crystal Spring Tigers

The Loyd Star Hornet kickers swept the Crystal Springs Tigers in high school soccer action Tuesday night.

In the girls contest, the Lady Hornets defeated Crystal Springs with a 10-1 final score.

Mallory Holden led the ladies’ offense with 3 goals. Madisyn Brister scored 2 with an assist from Ashlyn Locke. Madison Jones scored 2 with 2 assists from Mallory Holden. Mikayla Warren also scored 2 goals with an assist from Shelby Richardson and Ashlyn Locke. Mid-fielder, Lesley Walker scored 1 goal.

On defense, Shelby Richardson and Mikayla Warren both made 5 clearances. Amber Archer and Starr Thomas both had 3 clearances. Terra Lips had 2. Morgyn Brister, Madison Lowery, Madison Jones, Courtney Wyatt and Sarah Beth King each had 1 clearance as well. Morgyn Brister had 1 save in the goal.

In boys’ action, the Hornet won 5-1. Parker Flowers and Blayne Brister both scored 2 goals each with an assist from Jordan Michel. Jordan Michel also scored a goal with an assist from Parker Flowers.

Dylan Smith led the guys’ defense with 9 clearances followed by Brett Calcote with 8, Lane Rogers with 7 and Cameron Smith with 4. Goalie, Hayden Brownlee had 4 saves.

Loyd Star will be in action Friday as they travel to Wesson to take on the Cobras in their last regular season contest. Junior Varsity action begins at 4 p.m. for the girls and 5 for the boys. The varsity girls kick off at 6, followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
