PRENTISS – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars and Lady Cougars ended their regular season run on a high note as they defeated the Prentiss Christian School Saints in a pair of division games to secure second place in District 5AA MAIS basketball action Monday night.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Cougars cruised past the Lady Saints to win 50-32.

In boys’ action, the Cougars thumped the Saints 58-39.

BA begins District Tournament action later this week as they prepare to travel back to Prentiss Friday night to take on the Central Hinds Cougars for a pair of early games. The Lady Cougars of Brookhaven Academy is schedule to tip off at 4 p.m., followed by the boys at 5:30 p.m.

BA 50, Prentiss Christian 32 

The Lady Cougars (11-18, 6-2) came out and quickly dominated the Lady Saints in the first half of action as BA crushed Prentiss Christian 21-5 in the first quarter and continued to clobbered the Lady Saints with a 14-8 run in the second quarter to carry a 35-13 lead into halftime.

In the second half, BA turned off the scoring onslaught on the Lady Saints after winning the third quarter with a 9-7 run to lead 44-20.

In the fourth quarter, Prentiss Christian outscored BA 12-6. The Lady Cougars finished the season with a 8-2 record in the last 10 games of the season.

Mary Claire White powered the Lady Cougars’ offensive explosion with 13 points. Anna Kathryn Smith chipped in with 11 points. Bailey Stewart contributed eight points and lead on the boards with four rebounds.

Bayleigh Foster was the top scorer for the Lady Saints with 14 points.

BA 58, Prentiss Christian 39 

In the boys’ game, the BA Cougars came out strong, as similar to the girl’s game, to a 15-6 lead after one quarter of action.

In the second quarter, the Cougars continued to hammered the Saints with a 19-8 blast to take a commanding 34-14 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Prentiss Christian outscored BA 25-24 in the final two quarters, but the Cougars prevail to clinch the victory.

Two BA players scored 20 points plus in the win over Prentiss Christian as Peyton Hood led the charge with 26 points and six rebounds. Drake Flowers provided a 20 point performance and grabbed six rebounds. Ross Felder provided assistant on the boars with five rebounds.

Josh Daley direct the Saints offense with 13 points. Blake Greenlee provided 11 points.
