West Lincoln splits with Amite County

The West Lincoln Bears and the Amite County Lady Trojans were victorious in Region 7-2A basketball action in Jack Case Gymnasium.

In the girls game, the Lady Trojans managed to overcome West Lincoln’s tough defense to escape with a 41-36 victory.

In boys action, the Bears relied on a second quarter offensive explosion to crushed the Trojans 70-57.

West Lincoln will resume action Friday as they prepare to welcome their Lincoln County/Region rivals, the Enterprise Yellow Jackets, for three game. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by a pair of varsity games.

Amite Co. 41, West Lincoln 36 

The Lady Bears (7-15, 3-4) and the Lady Trojans battled in a defensive contest throughout the game as West Lincoln secured a 8-6 lead after one quarter of action.

In the second quarter, the Lady Trojans bounced back and went on a 11-8 run to carry a 17-16 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the defensive battle continue for both teams as Amite County extended their lead with a 8-7 push in the third quarter to lead 25-23.

In the final frame of action, both teams can out shooting offensively, but the Lady Trojans won the battle with a 16-13 run to escape with a narrow 41-36 win.

Hanna Moak was the offensive leader for the Lady Bears with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Layton Sills contributed eight points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists. Alli Mullins and Demeshia Deer chipped in with six points apiece. Deer also help on the boards with four rebounds. Mullins had three rebounds and three assists.

Fredreka Smith and Destiny Williams powered the Lady Trojans offensive attack with 13 points apiece.

West Lincoln 70, Amite Co. 57 

In the boys contest, the Bears and Trojans battled in a similar defensive bout with West Lincoln holding onto 19-18 advantage after one quarter of play.

In the second quarter, the Bears (10-13, 5-3) caught fire offensively and blasted the Trojans with a 20-8 explosion to take a 39-26 lead into halftime.

In the second half, both teams continued their fight in a close ball game as the Bears and the Trojans scored 31-points apiece combine in the final two quarter of action.

West Lincoln had four players to score in double figures as Keshaun London lead the charge with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Ronnie Edwards chipped in with 15 points and had five rebounds. Lofton Sills provided 12 points and grabbed four rebounds. Javion Mackabee scored 11 points and also helped on the boards with seven rebounds.

Darrion Robinson was the top scorer for the Trojans with 19 points. Kevin Williams contributed 10 points. Tyrese Hackett and Dikenis Roberts scored seven points apiece.
