WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln Head Coach Allen Kent has announced the 2015 Lady Wolves softball signing class. Seven high school seniors have inked with Co-Lin to be a part of the 2016 Lady Wolves team. Signees include Kayla Britt (Wesson Attendance Center), Mackenzie Byrd (Greene County High School), Katie Grace Culpepper (Brookhaven High School), Dianna Hobgood (Columbia Academy), Madison Hyde (Lawrence County High School), Jamie Martin (Lawrence County High School) and Trevlynn Scott (Angleton Christian School).

 Coach Kent on Britt:  “We’ve seen Kayla develop a lot these past couple of years. She’s very versatile and can play pretty much anywhere but pitcher. She brings some experience at catcher, which is always a good thing. She handles the bat well and is eager to learn more.”

Britt plays for Michelle Nunnery at Wesson and has been previously coached by former Wesson head coach Jackie Stowe Johnson. Johnson is a former Lady Wolf who was a starter on the 2006 team that finished third in the NJCAA National Tournament.

Coach Kent on Byrd:  “We are excited to have Mackenzie join our program. She’s super athletic and is so fluid on the field. She’s excelled at shortstop in travel ball, and we project her to continue towards that position here.”

Byrd, also a standout on the Greene County basketball team, is recovering from a knee injury suffered while playing basketball but expects to be fully recovered by the 2016 season.

Coach Kent on Culpepper:  “We are looking forward to having Katie Grace join our program. We’ve watched her progress through the years. She has exceptional speed and athleticism. She’s a true outfielder, but has had to play some infield in school ball.”

Culpepper plays for two former Lady Wolves at Brookhaven High in Head Coach Mandy Vinson and Assistant Coach Megan Bateman Case. The duo were teammates on the 2005 Lady Wolves team and were both standout players in their own right as student-athletes at Co-Lin.

Coach Kent on Hobgood:  “Diana has tremendous bat speed and is not just a pull hitter. We’ve seen her hit homeruns to all parts of the park. She’s an excellent defensive first baseman and can play third as well.”

Hobgood was named MAIS All-Star game and is the second Columbia Academy Lady Cougar to sign with Co-Lin in two years, joining Greta Carley, a 2014 signee.

Coach Kent on Hyde:  “Madison has developed into a versatile player, capable of handling several positions. That’s always a valuable tool. She’s got some pop in her bat and should really press some folks for playing time.”

Hyde is another in a long line of Lawrence County Lady Cougars who have signed with the Lady Wolves. The current roster features three Lawrence County alums.

Coach Kent on Martin:  “Jamie has been to some of our camps through the years, and we’ve watched her develop into a really good hitter. She’s a strong girl with quick hands. She’s got the potential to put up some good offensive numbers in our league. We project her as a first baseman/DH, but she has played some third base also.”

Both Hyde and Martin have played for former Lady Wolf Maleah Brown Howard at Lawrence County. Howard was a stalwart on the 2008 Co-Lin team that finished runner-up in the NJCAA National Tournament.

Coach Kent on Scott:  “We are thrilled to have Trevlynn join our program. She’s got a great mound presence and really spins the ball well. She’s got a great build and is very athletic. Trevlynn also caught our eyes with how well she handles the bat.”

Angleton Christian does not have a softball team, Scott instead plays travel ball year-round. The Angleton Christian senior class, including Scott, is made up of seven students.
