Free throws lift Co-Lin past East Central

WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolves and the Lady Wolves secured a pair of two-point victories off of free throws Monday night to collect a sweep over the East Central Warriors at Mullin Gymnasium.

In the women’s contest, the Lady Wolves survived a double overtime thriller to keep their undefeated season alive as they defeated the Lady Warriors 101-99 to win the South Division crown at home.

In the men’s game, the Wolves captured their six win of the season with a 65-63 thrilling win over East Central.

Co-Lin returns to action Thursday as they prepare to travel south down I-55 to Summit to take on their archrivals, the Southwest Bears, for another big South Division test. The women’s contest will start at 5:30 p.m., followed the men’s game at 7:30.

Co-Lin 101, East Central 99

The Lady Wolves and the Lady Warriors provided an exciting contest for their basketball fans as both teams came out strong the first half as East Central captured an early four-points lead before Co-Lin charge back to take a 39-32 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the battle continue as the Lady Warriors managed to pull away and secured a nine-point advantage over Co-Lin with 1:51 remaining.

The Lady Wolves (20-0, 11-0) did not give in to the pressure and rallied back to tied the contest at 79-all at the end of regulation.

In the first overtime, both teams end up scoring 11-points each to force another overtime at 90-all.

In the second overtime, Co-Lin and East Central continued their bout as both teams enter the final minute tied at 99-all. Lady Wolves’ Claresa Banks manage to give Co-Lin the lead at 101-99 after nailing two big free throws. The Lady Wolves kept the Lady Warriors from scoring on their final play of the contest to preserve the win.

Co-Lin had five players to score in double figures as Alexis Collins led with 22 points and seven rebounds. Kelley Allen chipped in with 21 points and had six rebounds. Banks contributed 17 points and grabbed six rebounds. Arnissayur Robinson netted 15 points. Tenazhia Hinkson provided 10 points. Toni Woods was the leader on the boards with eight rebounds and scored nine points.

East Central placed six players in double figures as Shakerya Morrison led with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Tynika Bender cashed in 17 points. Tashianna Thompson provided 15 points. Samantha Duncan chipped in with 13 points, Kalybriah Haskin scored 12 points and Jalesia Jones added 10 points.

Co-Lin 65, East Central 63 

In a late men’s contest, the Wolves and Warriors provided another exciting ball game for their basketball fans as both teams went into halftime tied at 30-all.

In the second half, the battle continued as Co-Lin and East Central fought back and forth in a close game. In the final minute of the game, the Wolves and the Warriors were tied at 63-all.

Co-Lin’s Donte Watson nailed two big free throws to put the Wolves (6-14, 4-7) up 65-63 in the closing seconds and held on for the win.

Terry Morris was the top scorer for the Wolves with 15 points. Jordan Lumpkin contributed nine points and grabbed five rebounds. Josh Washington and Donte Watson were the leaders on the boards with seven rebounds. Watson finished with seven points and Washington had six points. Joe Shelby chipped in with eight points.

Ravion Henry powered the Warriors with 22 points and eight rebounds. Quinton Campbell provided 13 points and led on the boards with nine rebounds. Isaiah Traylor netted 11 points.
