Wesson tennis players advance to State

The Wesson Cobra netters finished strong in their Region 7-3A Individual Tournament which was held at the Brookhill tennis courts Friday.

The Cobras had eight out of their 12 starters qualify for the Individuals State Championship, which will be held from May 11 through May 12 in Jackson and Ridgeland.

Erich Fischer was crowned district champion in boys’ singles. Reid Crow and Amber Brinson won district in mixed doubles. Kimberly San won the district crown in girls’ singles, and Logan Channell and Ray Drane won district in boys’ doubles.

Maya Granger and Morgan Wesley also qualified for state championships by placing second in girls’ doubles.

Devin Wallace and Davion Frye finished with one win and one lost on the day in boys’ doubles No. 2 action. Shaylin Green and Nekevia Frye also finished with one win and one lost in girls doubles action.

Wesson will be in team action on Monday, as they face Morton in the first round of South State playoffs, starting at 2 p.m. at Co-Lin’s tennis courts.
