DAILY LEADER / TRACY FISCHER / Wesson’s Amber Brinson returns a serve in Mixed Doubles action as the Cobra netters knock off Morton in the Class 3A state playoff tennis action Monday at Co-Lin Tennis Courts.

WESSON – The Wesson Cobras tennis team defeated Morton 4-3 to advance in the South State playoffs Monday afternoon at Co-Lin Tennis Courts.

The Cobra netters improved their record to 11-1 on the season

In Boys Singles action, Wesson’s Erich Fischer (W) defeated Alex Sumrall of Morton 6-0, 6-0. Fischer extended his consecutive streak of 6-0 sets to 12. Erich has not lost a game since the All-County Tournament on March 28.

In Girls Singles, Kimberly San (W) defeated Annie Mapp (M) 6-0, 6-4.

In Boys No. 1 Doubles, Morton’s duo of Jase Grant and Cellas Hayes downed Wesson’s Logan Channell and Rat Drane 7-5, 6-3.

In Girls No. 1 Doubles, T’iara Warnsley and Macie Frith of Morton defeated Maya Granger and Morgan Wesley of Wesson 6-4, 6-3.

In Mixed Doubles, Wesson’s freshman duo of Reid Crow and Amber Brinson won over Morton’s Javonta Washington and Kimberly Crotwell 6-3, 6-2.

In Boys No. 2 Doubles, sophomore Alex Mooney and seventh grader Kenner Bizot of Wesson defeated Morton’s Shelton Mangum and Tink Ragsdale 6-4, 6-4.

In Girls No. 2 Doubles, Kathryn Reeves and Cassi Derrick (M) defeated Chelsea McManus and Issy Morse (W) 6-0, 6-0.
