Union rallies to eliminate West Lincoln

The Union Lady Yellowjackets rallied back to win games two and three Tuesday night to end West Lincoln’s softball season in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs at West Lincoln.

In Game One, West Lincoln cruised to a 13-4 win over Union, before the Lady Yellowjackets stormed back to win Game Two 7-5 and eliminated the Lady Bears in Game Three with a 9-5 victory.

“I really hate to see our season come to an end,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “The girls did a great job fighting until the very end. I am proud for this group of seniors. They have won a lot of games in their years of playing. It just hurts when it has to come to an end.”

The Lady Bears finished the season with a 21-7 record, but managed to win their third straight division crown with an undefeated record at 2-0.

West Lincoln 13, Union 4 

Makennah Redd was the winning pitcher for West Lincoln with one strikeout and no walks.

Haley Morgan suffered the loss for the Lady Jackets with no strikeouts and two walks.

Sara Jane Doty powered the Lady Bears’ offense with a home run, a double and two singles. Hanna Moak provided a home run and a single. Peyton White contributed three singles. Alli Mullins and Jana Case ripped a pair of singles. Layton Sills, Makennah Redd and Anna Brooke Davis hit safely.

Lilly Burton led the Lady Yellowjackets’ offense with three singles. McKenzie Dolan provided a double and a single. Kristen Kennedy had two singles. Hitting safely were Macy Lott, Maycee Knight, Parker Breland and Maloree Rigdon.

Union 7, West Lincoln 5 

Morgan pitched the win for the Lady Yellowjackets with no strikeouts and no walks.

Redd absorbed the setback on the mound for West Lincoln with two strikeouts and two walks.

Dolan directed Union’s offense with a home run and a single. Burton had two singles. Rigdon, Kennedy, Breland, Knight and Lott hit a single each.

Mullins and Doty were the top hitters for the Lady Bears with two singles. Moak and Case ripped a double each. Hitting safely were Redd, Davis and White.

Union 9, West Lincoln 5 

Morgan (0K, 0BB) earned the win on the rubber for Union.

Redd (2K, 2BB) suffered the setback on the mound for West Lincoln.

Dolan directed the Lady Yellowjackets offense once again with two doubles and two singles. Ansley Rigby, Breland and Kennedy hit two singles each. Burton, Knight and Morgan had a single each.

Mullins paced the Lady Bears at the plate with three singles. Sills, Redd and Davis contributed two singles each. Megan Gerald and Moak hit a double each. Hitting safely were Doty and White.
