Hinds AHS captures two against BC

BOGUE CHITTO – The Hinds AHS Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs swept a pair of Region 7-1A games from Bogue Chitto Friday night in high school basketball action.

In the girls’ game, the Hinds AHS Lady Bulldogs escaped with a 59-45 victory over the Lady Cats.

In boys’ action, Hinds AHS clobbered the Bobcats 90-38.

Bogue Chitto will take off two weeks to enjoy the holiday season, before resuming action Tuesday, Jan. 7, as they visit Natchez Cathedral for a pair of district games. The Lady Cats and Bobcats will play four games against the Green Wave. The junior high girls will begin the contest at 4 p.m., followed by the boys. The varsity games are set to start at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

Hinds AHS 59, Bogue Chitto 45 

The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Cats continued their heated rivalry as both fought hard through a tough defensive contest

Hinds AHS managed to claim a 21-15 after one quarter of action, before BC charged back to outscore the Lady Bulldogs 13-9 as Hinds AHS took a slim 30-28 lead into halftime.

In the second half, both schools continued their heavy weight bout as the score remained close 44-40 after three quarters of action. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bulldogs managed to get the upper hand on the Lady Cats by outscoring the BC 15-9 to secure the win.

Zariah Matthews was the offensive leader for the Lady Cats (12-3, 1-1) with 11 points. Mattie Avants contributed 10 points.

“I thought we played really well in the first half and third quarter,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “In the fourth quarter, we struggled offensively. We must learn to make free throws. Octavia Barnes played a heck of a game for Hinds AHS.”

Octavia Barnes pumped in a game-high 33 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs with 33 points. Erica Harris chipped in with 14 points.

Hinds AHS 90, Bogue Chitto 38 

The Bulldogs of Utica came out of the starting gates on fire as the thumped the Bobcats for a 46-21 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Hinds AHS continued to overpower Bogue Chitto by hammering the Bobcats 44-17 and coast to the victory.

Senior forward Dennis Rogers was the top scorer for the Bobcats (2-13, 0-2) with 10 points. Jeremy Blackwell led on the boards for BC with six rebounds. Damien Terrell and Rogers helped with five rebounds apiece.

Eric Richards led four Bulldogs in double figures with 12 points. LeMontex Brown provided 11 points. DeAndre Bolton and Jarius Smith contributed 10 points apiece.
