Amite County exterminates Jackets

The visiting Amite County Trojans took care of business Friday night as they swept a pair of varsity basketball games over the Enterprise Yellow Jackets.

In the varsity girls’ game, the Trojans stood firm as a late Enterprise rally came up short in a 59-49 victory.

In boys’ action, Amite County awakened in the second half and cruised to a 72-43 win.

Both teams resume district play Tuesday night as Amite County travels to Jack Case Gymnasium to meet the West Lincoln Bears in a matchup of district 7-2A frontrunners.

Enterprise will entertain county rival Loyd Star with 4 games beginning at 4 p.m.

Amite County 59, Enterprise 49 

The visiting Lady Trojans came out of the gates quickly to command an early 16-9 advantage after one quarter. Size and athleticism continued to be advantageous for Amite County as they increased their lead to 15 points at halftime.

Alissa Barlow led Enterprise (8-11, 0-4) in scoring with 14 points. Markie Case helped the Lady Jackets’ cause with 12 points and 6 rebounds.

Enterprise cut the Lady Trojan lead to under 10 points with less than a minute left but Amite County protected the basketball in the final seconds to secure the win.

Destiny Williams fired in 18 points to pave the way for the Lady Trojans. Cimeral Patterson and Dalhia Toplin added 14 and 11 points respectively for Amite County.

Amite County 72, Enterprise 43 

Amite County and Enterprise boys provided an entertaining first half of basketball. The Trojans stormed out to an 18-7 advantage after one quarter of action. Amite County maintained a 32-22 lead until Enterprise’s Forrest Scott drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the Trojan lead to 32-25 at intermission.

Turnovers were the Achilles heel on the night for Enterprise (7-12, 0-4) as the Yellow Jackets turned the ball over a whopping 41 times in the loss.

A 22-9 Amite County spurt in the third quarter all but ended Enterprise’s chances of an upset.

Forrest Scott and Zach Hodges led the Jackets in scoring with 13 points apiece.

Cameron led Amite County with 19 points. Jamal Anderson pumped in another 18 points for the Trojans who remains undefeated in district play.
