West Lincoln splits with Amite Co.

LIBERTY – The West Lincoln Bears and Amite County Lady Trojans are still undefeated in Region 7-2A action after capturing wins Friday night.

In the girls’ contest, the Lady Trojans clobbered the Lady Bears 56-15.

In boys’ action, the Bears managed to overcome a tough challenge by Amite County to secure a 59-48 win over the Trojans.

West Lincoln returns to action Tuesday as they prepare to visit Enterprise to battle their Lincoln County and Region rivals, the Yellow Jackets. The junior varsity games begin at 4 and 5 p.m. The varsity girls are scheduled to start at 6, followed by the boys’ contest at 7:30 p.m.

Amite Co. 56, W. Lincoln 15 

The Lady Trojans (17-7, 8-0) came out and quickly took care of business Friday night as they dominated the first half to claim a 32-8 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Bears (5-19, 3-6) worked hard to battle back into the contest but the Lady Trojans had too much firepower to overcome as Amite County outscored West Lincoln 24-7 to claim the win.

Senior forward Destiny Allen was the offensive leader for the Lady Bears with 5 points. Heather Moak provided 4 points. Karley Smith and Hannah Moak lead on the boards with 4 rebounds apiece.

The Lady Trojans had three players to score in double figures as Destiny Williams poured in a game-high 14 points. Cameral Patterson contributed 11 points. Fredreka Smith chipped in 10 points.

W. Lincoln 59, Amite Co. 48 

The Bears (22-4, 9-0) experienced another tough test on the road Friday night as Amite County Trojans came out ready to play.

In the first quarter, West Lincoln quickly set the tone of the game by climbing out to an early 18-7 lead and continued to increase their lead in the second quarter to take a 33-18 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Trojans made an attempt to charge back into the contest by outscoring the Bears 30-26, but failed to overcome West Lincoln’s large lead as the Bears managed to hold on for the win.

Sophomore guard Ronnie Edwards pumped in a game-high 21 points to lead the Bears with 21 points. Junior forward Duane Marshall cashed in 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Senior center Sam Bivens ruled the boards for the Bears with 15 rebounds. Bivens also had 5 points.

Terry Cameron directed the Trojans offensive charge with a team-high 18 points.
