BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats were victorious over the Pelahatchie Lady Chiefs 68-60 in Region 7-1A tournament semifinals action at the Bobcats Palace.

In boys’ action, the St. Aloysius Flashes managed to hold off BC’s second half attack to escape with a 77-71 victory.

Bogue Chitto 68, Pelahatchie 60 

The Lady Cats and Lady Chiefs came out and provided a tough physical contest for their basketball fans from start to finish. At the end of the first quarter, BC secured a 14-13 lead.

In the second quarter, the Lady Cats managed to increase their lead to take a 32-26 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the battle heated up, but Bogue Chitto stood strong and held off Pelahatchie’s attack, outscoring the Lady Chiefs 36-34 to advance to the Region 7-1A girls championship.

Sophomore guard Zariah Matthews and sophomore forward Christian were the top scoring leaders for the Lady Cats with 20 points apiece. Senior guard Mattie Avants contributed 11 points. Black paced BC on the boards with 12 rebounds. Lauren McCaffrey helped on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Janae Collier powered the Lady Chiefs with a game-high 22 points.

St. Aloysius 77, Bogue Chitto 71 

The Bobcats and Flashes gave their fans an exciting offensive thriller in the boys’ contest. In the first half, the Flashes came out on fire and overwhelmed BC to take a 49-27 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Bobcats cooled off the Vicksburg-based Flashes and blasted St. Aloysius with a huge comeback 44-28 run but fell short at the end.

Senior forward Dennis Rogers led Bogue Chitto’s offensive charge with a game-high double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds. Damien Terrell also contributed a double-double performance with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Jeremiah Perkins and Brock Roberts had 11 points apiece. Perkins helped on the boards with 12 rebounds

The Flashes had four players to place in double figures as Ben Welp was the top-scoring leader with 22 points. Mathew Foley, Conner Smith and Luke Eckstein netted 15 points apiece.
