WESSON – Freshman catcher Blake Talbot hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Copiah-Lincoln an exciting 8-7 win in game two versus East Central in Wesson on Friday night. East Central gained a doubleheader split by defeating the Wolves 10-6 in game one.

East Central 10, Co-Lin 6 

Co-Lin, down 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth, tied the game on a three run homer by freshman Logan Smith. Smith’s blast to left field would score Choc Hubbard and Mitch Little. The inning could have been bigger for Co-Lin, but the Wolves ended it with the bases loaded.

The wheels would fall off for Co-Lin (7-13, 3-1) in the sixth and seventh innings as East Central (9-11, 3-1) took command of the game. The Warriors scored four runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to take a lead they would never relinquish.

Co-Lin would load the bases again in the sixth and that would lead East Central to walk in a run, but East Central would get an inning ending double play to stop the Co-Lin threat.

The Wolves began the final inning with a Tanner Parvin single. Parvin would then score on a two run homer by Dominic Savage. That would be as close as the Wolves would get as East Central would close out the game without giving up any more runs.

Pitcher Kale Futz picked up the win for East Central. Freshman Colby Whitfield was charged with the loss for Co-Lin. Co-Lin would be charged with three errors in the game.

Co-Lin 8, East Central 7 

The second game featured five lead changes and wasn’t settled until Talbot provided his game ending hit with one out in the seventh.

Sophomore shortstop Ryan Young led Co-Lin at the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBI’s. The Baton Rouge native doubled in the second inning and singled in the fifth and seventh innings. Wesley Watts, Adrian Brown, and Tanner Parvin all had RBI’s for Co-Lin.

Co-Lin went up 7-6 in the bottom of the sixth when Brown scored Parvin on a sacrifice fly. East Central would then tie the game in the top of the seventh, setting the stage for Talbot’s game winner.

Jake Bush was charged with the loss for East Central. The Warriors committed five errors. Casey Hurley picked up the win for Co-Lin. Hurley pitched two innings and gave up two hits, one runs, and struck out two.

Co-Lin returns to action on Tuesday March 18 when they travel to Southwest to take on the Bears in the Coca-Cola/Powerade Challenge. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. in Summit.
