The Loyd Star Lady Hornets are riding a 12-game winning streak after knocking off the Enterprise Lady Jackets 12-2 Tuesday night in Region 7-2A softball action.

“We hit the ball really well tonight,” said Loyd Star coach Jan Delaughter. “I was very pleased with my girls[‘ effort. They played well defensively behind Mackenzie.”

The Lady Hornets (12-1, 4-0) return to action Friday as they prepare to take on another Lincoln County rival, the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.

The Lady Jackets (4-11. 2-2) were scheduled to play Thursday against Bassfield, but the game was postponed due to field conditions at Bassfield. Enterprise will resume action as they prepare to host the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs in a varsity doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.

Lady Hornets 12, Lady Jackets 2 

The Lady Hornets and Lady Jackets provided an offensive thriller in the first two innings of action as Loyd Star managed to claim a 5-2 lead.

Loyd Star continued to hit the ball hard against their rivals as they increased their lead to 12-2 in five innings of work to secure the win.

Mackenzie Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Hornets with one strikeout and no walks.

Carlee Nations absorbed the setback for the Lady Jackets with one strikeout and two walks. Kalyn Chemin (1K, 1BB) also saw some action on the mound for Enterprise.

Ali Gartman powered Loyd Star’s attack with two doubles and a single. Raigan Smith contributed a double and two singles. Abigail Thornton ripped three singles. Lexie Butler had a double and a single and Madison Jones hit two singles.

“The girls played hard and did a great job,” said Enterprise coach Ashley Jones. “We are a very young team, but we are continuing to improve in each contest. Loyd Star hit the ball really well. Overall, I was very pleased with the girls’ effort. We still have to continue to work hard to get better.”

Jana Nations was the top hitter for the Lady Jackets with two singles. Hitting safely were Carlee Nations, Skylar Dahlin and Nicole Rutland.

In junior varsity action, Loyd Star defeated Enterprise 5-3.

Kelsie McCullough (2K, 0BB) and Megan Poole (0K, 4BB) pitched the victory for the Lady Hornets.

Kalyn Chemin (5K, 1BB) and Haley Nations (5K, 4BB) tossed for the Lady Jackets.

Hannah Rutland paced Enterprise at the plate with two singles. Carlea Cline, Morgan Smith and Chemin hit safely.

Marley Poole recorded the only hit for Loyd Star with a single.
