WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras overcame a tough defensive battle to prevail 3-2 over the West Lincoln Lady Bears Thursday night in non-divisional softball action.

The Lady Cobras will travel to West Marion on Tuesday, April 22 for a make-up game. West Lincoln will play Tylertown Tuesday, April 22 at home. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m. and varsity softball begins at 6 p.m. for both teams.

The Lady Cobras came out on top in a close game against the Lady Bears Thursday night.

Wesson coach Jackie Johnson stated, “We made some timely hits and played good defense. It was a good win before going into to the playoffs.”

This was the Lady Cobras’ last home game and seniors Sarah Robinson and Bailey Middleton were recognized before the game.

Lady Cobras’ pitcher, Hayley Chassion, had five strikeouts, three walks and fielded three outs. Senior Bailey Middleton started the game off with a home run, which put the first points on the scoreboard for the Lady Cobras. Sabria Green also hit a two-run home run. Harmoni Ashley and Abby Meredith both hit single each.

The Lady Cobras’ got in a jam during the sixth inning with bases loaded and no outs for the Lady Bears, but a timely double play by Chassion and catcher Kayla Britt took away West Lincoln’s threat.

Lady Bears’ pitcher, Malori Hall, suffered the setback with five strikeouts and no walks. Hall was the top hitter for the Lady Bears with a 1 RBI double.

In junior varsity action,  The Lady Bears beat the Lady Cobras with a final score of 9-4 Thursday afternoon.
